We Have Snow

Santa was a little late in delivering it, but we finally have the white stuff here in Southern Ontario!  The kids are super excited about it.  All the fluffy flakes has me in the mood for creating winter activities for the children to work with come the new year.  I will be posting more as I create them.  These cute little penguins were purchased from DJInkers.

Hurry Santa

I'm a big fan of the Julie Sykes Santa books.  They are so super cute!  My JK crew has mastered time to the hour using both analog and digital clocks so I thought I'd step it up a notch and include time to the half hour.  This game works great as an extended activity for the Hurry Santa book.

Counting on Christmas

I'm hoping to post some holiday goodies for you over the next couple of weeks.  My crew will be working on their number words to twelve so I put together this little puzzle game to reinforce the words.  I don't usually purchase clipart, but who can resist the adorable drawings from DJ Inkers!

Christmas is Coming

Only 17 more days until the man in the big red suit travels the globe... I absolutely love this time of year - the music, the pretty lights, the whole holiday season :).  It would be nice if the wet stuff falling from the sky was snow and not rain, but I keep the hope of a white Christmas right up until the big day.

Today was an 'Alexander Day' and as one of my kids asked... "what does that mean Ruth?... It means it was a TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD VERY BAD DAY... and maybe... this weekend... I'll move to Australia!!!"  One good thing... it's Friday and I have an awesome weekend to look forward to.

So... in honour of Anthony... who I may just see 'down under' ... here is a game I created for the holiday season.

How Does It Taste?

We ended our 5 senses unit with the yummiest one of all - TASTE!  This week we have been exploring different tastes.  We did a blind taste test with various tasting foods - sweet, salty, and sour.  We discussed ways to describe food... delicious, yummy, yucky, sour, sweet, salty, scrumptious, crunchy, sticky, etc.  We also discussed recipes and made a few goodies as well as reviewed measuring.

For craft, we had fun vegetable stamping by dipping vegetables in paint and stamping them onto paper.  A huge hit was magic milk painting!

Here are some songs we enjoyed at circle time...

5 Little Hot Dogs

5 little hot dogs in a pan
The pan got hot and one went 'bang'
Took it out and put it in a bun
Think I'll have another one.
4 ... 3.... 2....
1 little hot dog in a pan
The pan got hot and one went 'bang'
Took it out and put it in a bun
Now I think that I am done.

Apples and Bananas

I like to eat, eat, eat apples and bananas
I like to eat, eat, eat apples and bananas

I like to ate, ate, ate ay-ples and ba-nay-nays

I like to eat, eat, eat ee-ples and bee-nee-nees
I like to eat, eat, eat ee-ples and bee-nee-nees

I like to ite, ite, ite i-ples and bi-ni-nis

We have had so much fun with this unit... I am so glad we did it over 5 weeks so that we could thoroughly explore each of the five senses!
